Dr. Butt is a very accomplished and well-respected scientist throughout the world. Specializing in Experimental Nuclear Physics, Dr. Butt focuses his efforts on the intersection of science and policy; with Cultural Intelligence Institute, he investigates how that policy is affected by culture.

In addition to his responsibilities at Cultural Intelligence Institute, Dr. Butt is a senior scientific advisor to British-American Security Information Council (BASIC). He was a Senior Fellow of the Federation of American Scientists, and has served as a Scientist-in-Residence and Professor at the Center for Non-Proliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Dr. Butt was also a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (Committee on International Security and Arms Control) and Union of Concerned Scientists (Global Security Program). For nearly 10 years, he was the Lead Instrument Operations Scientist for NASA's orbiting CHANDRA X-ray Observatory!
